Why Port Washington & Gold Coast Residents are Choosing Laser Vein Removal for Fast Results

About 80% of United States adults have spider veins or varicose veins. These veins typically aren’t a health concern, but they can make many people feel self-conscious, especially when located on visible areas such as the legs and thighs.

Now that summer is here, many people are spending more time at the beach. However, the transition to shorts and swimsuits can be stressful if you’re concerned about how your veins look.

That’s why a growing number of Port Washington and Gold Coast, New York, residents are turning to John Zarcone, MD, FACS, FACPh, RVT, at Zarcone Vein & Aesthetics, for laser vein removal.

Read on to learn what laser vein removal is, what to expect during treatment, and how to determine if you’re a good candidate.

Understanding laser vein removal

Laser vein removal is an umbrella term for several laser-based vein treatments, including endovenous laser ablation, used to address vascular conditions, such as spider and varicose veins.

During treatment, Dr. Zarcone uses laser technology and ultrasound-guided imaging to target specific veins on the legs, face, and other areas of the body. Once the device is in position, it delivers controlled heat to the targeted vein, causing its walls to collapse.

Laser vein removal can treat multiple veins in a single session. After the treated veins collapse, blood is rerouted through the surrounding veins, and the treated areas slowly fade away so they’re less noticeable.

The treatment is minimally invasive, and many people can return to work and other activities immediately after.

Laser vein removal: What to expect during treatment

Laser vein removal is an outpatient procedure that typically takes 60-90 minutes.

When you arrive at our office, we have you change into a gown and lie down on an exam table.

After you’re prepped for treatment, Dr. Zarcone makes a series of tiny incisions in your skin and inserts a thin laser fiber into specific veins. Once the laser fiber is in position, he gradually heats the targeted veins, causing their walls to collapse and seal shut.

Dr. Zarcone repeats this process for each of the veins being treated.

It’s normal to experience warmth and a mild tingling sensation during treatment. However, you won’t feel discomfort.

At the end of treatment, Dr. Zarcone removes the laser fiber, applies bandages, and provides recovery instructions.

It’s normal to have mild redness and bruising near each vein, but this should improve within a day or two.

Don’t be alarmed if your veins don’t disappear right away. It can take several weeks or months for them to shrink and be absorbed by your body.

Determining if you’re a candidate

The best way to determine whether you’re a candidate for laser vein removal is to request an in-office consultation. After reviewing your health history and discussing your goals, Dr. Zarcone can make personalized recommendations.

That said, you’re likely a candidate if you:
